Climbing Hempweed, also called Climbing Hempvine, is a member of the Aster family. It is common in
ditches and wet areas. These plants were photographed in Southern Mobile County, Alabama,
in September and October.
Compare it to the very simular Florida Keys Hempvine (Mikania cordifolia). Note that the stems of Climbing Hempweed are rounded and somewhat reddish. The stems of Florida Keys Hempvine are clearly six sided, and the flower heads are somewhat larger. The leaves of Climbing Hempweed are slightly paler, with perhaps a touch of yellow. |
