Crow Poison is also called Osceola's plume, Black Snakeroot, and Death Camass. As the names indicate, this plant is considered poisonous. The scientific name for Crow Poison seems somewhat confused. Most books, as well as the USDA web site and the ITIS (Integrated Taxonomic Information System) web site name it Zigadenus densus: however some books and the USF Atlas of Florida Vascular Plants name it Stenanthium densum. This plant was photographed near Todd Acres Road, in South Mobile County, Alabama, in early May. |
