Indian Heliotrope is also known as Turnsole. Both "heliotrope" and "turnsole" refer to the way in which the downward leaning flower spike straightens and turns the flowers to the sun as they open. It is native to Asia, but is now found across much of the Eastern United States. This plant was photographed on the bank of the Tombigbee River at Leroy, in Washington County, Alabama, in late August.

Boraginaceae - Borage family
