Ipomoea hederifolia Scarlet Creeper

Scarlet Creeper a member of the Morning-glory family. It is very simular to Redstar, Ipomoea coccinea, and some have considered Ipomoea hederifolia to be a variety or subspecies of Ipomoea coccinea. In the last photo note that the seedpods are erect: that indicates that the plant is Scarlet Creeper; if the seedpods were bent backward, (reflexed) that would indicate that the plant was Redstar. These plants were photographed near Wilmer, in West Mobile County, Alabama, in late October.

Convolvulaceae - Morning-glory family
